I have a learning disability and have known about it since I was in grade 10. It's called disphonixs dyslexia. Basically it's just a very short memory and sounds get mixed up in my head when I'm reading. There are many different learning disabilities but these are my experiences.
I first inquired about it after feeling like I was behind in my classes and my mom had me tested. The testing was hard and long but I've done it a few times now so at least I expect it. When I was told about it, I felt that it was good because I was giving things in school to help me be successful.
Aids:
- Extra time for tests
- Program to read text to me
- Private space to write tests and exams
- Can do tests orally
- Note taker
There are many stereotypes about learning disabilities and remarks made everyday that someone with a learning disability is less intelligent than others and this is not true. People with learning disabilities just learn things in different ways and do not mean someone is less capable of someone without a learning disability.
